What started as a forgotten snack in my work bag became a violently ill episode for my baby Knox. I have a list on the side of the fridge of certain foods and plants that are poisonous to pups. I know all too well that raisins are toxic to dogs. Little did I know that the research on the topic is scarce and there are a lot of unknowns. Some dogs have eaten just a few raisins and died, while others have survived eating large amounts. Kidney failure can occur and often times people have had to euthanize their pups. This is a scary, scary thing.
After being sick for about 24 hours, Knox was very lethargic, would not eat, drink or play. I knew he was dehydrated and couldn't get him to drink. A 10 ml syringe I had on hand helped me to get some fluids in him. He would take water from the syringe, but wasn't interested in a bowl. Whatever worked.
Knox had labs drawn on Monday and again today. The renal failure happens quickly and within the first few days. Thank God, there were no changes in Knox's blood work. His kidneys are still doing just fine.
Knox has been awake for about 3 hours now, which is the longest he has been awake since Sunday night. He is playing a bit, has eaten and is drinking.I appreciate all of the prayers, messages and comments. Remember me saying God is prepping me for kiddos? I'm ready to be done with the whole prep part. Can I just be free of crises until I have children?! :)
I appreciate all of the loving kindness. I really, really do.
